How long does it take to remodel a kitchen?

Kitchen renovations are one of the most common home Improvement projects, and they do take quite a bit of time to complete. Whether you’re doing a small kitchen remodel, a full kitchen renovation, or just updating cabinets and countertops, having a realistic timeline can help you plan.

Here is a breakdown of what to expect:

PHASE 1 : Planning and design (2-6+ weeks)

Before any demolition begins, you’ll need to:

▪️Choose a kitchen layout

▪️ Pick materials (cabinets, countertops, flooring, appliances)

▪️ Hire a contractor (Forged Build LLC)

Side note: Custom cabinets can take 6-12 weeks so order early!

PHASE 2: Permits & Ordering Materials (2-8+ weeks)

If you’re moving plumbing or electrical, you may need building permits. Also appliances, cabinets and countertops need to be ordered

COMMON DELAYS: Backordered appliances, permit approvals (varies by location), Custom countertops and cabinetry.

PHASE 3: Demolition (1-2+ weeks)

Removing old cabinets, countertops, and flooring is usually quick, but unexpected issues can slow things down for example like outdated wiring or water damage.

PHASE 4: Rough-In Work (2-4+ weeks)

This Includes:

▪️Electrical and Plumbing updates

▪️ HVAC adjustments

▪️ Inspections before moving forward

PHASE 5: Installation (4-6+ weeks)

This is when your new kitchen starts coming together:

▪️ Cabinets installed (1-2+ weeks)

▪️ Countertops measured & installed (1-2+ weeks)

▪️ Flooring, backsplash, and appliances (1-2+ weeks)

Side note: Countertops can’t be installed until cabinets are in place, so expect a short delay

PHASE 6: Final Touches (2-3+ weeks)

▪️ Plumbing & electrical hook-ups

▪️ Paint & hardware installation

▪️ Final inspections

Side note: Delays could happen when working with other sub-contractors such as electricians and plumbers
